Nestled in the Miraflores district, just steps from the beach that borders Peru's capital, Costanera 700 stands as one of Lima's most celebrated restaurants. With its succulent and diverse offerings, it has become a favorite haunt for Peru's most prominent figures, business leaders, and international visitors who return again and again to experience its distinctive fare.
Founded by the son of a Japanese immigrant, Costanera 700 owes its prestige to a cuisine that masterfully blends Japanese and Peruvian culinary techniques. This fusion creates uniquely exceptional dishes that captivate its discerning clientele. Fish and seafood take center stage in the restaurant's preparations.
History
Costanera 700 was established by Humberto Sato over 40 years ago. Originally located in La Parada, the restaurant was later relocated to the Miraflores neighborhood, retaining the name of its original street.
A passionate cook from an early age, Sato began preparing dishes with his mother at just seven years old. Although he trained in mechanics, Sato chose to make cooking his life's work. His curiosity led him to master culinary secrets that would define his legacy. His restaurant gained renown for its exquisite ceviches, which seamlessly marry Japanese and Peruvian cooking traditions.
Costanera 700 was the preferred dining destination of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori. In the 1990s, pivotal negotiations regarding the border conflict between Ecuador and Peru took place within its walls, and agreements ending the confrontation between the two nations were reached here. The restaurant ranks among Lima's finest establishments. In 2019, it secured 4th place in the Summum Prize, Peru's most prestigious gastronomic competition.
Words from the Restaurant's Current Chef
Today, Yaquir Sato leads the family enterprise alongside his three brothers. He also serves as the restaurant's head chef, a position he held well before his father's passing in 2018, at the age of 78. Yaquir has brought his own creative touch to the dishes and décor while honoring his father's rich culinary heritage.
