A small family-run 6-room posada in Puno, on the heights of Lake Titicaca, managed by Rufino and Lucrecia with décor entirely composed of Peruvian handicrafts.

Rufino y Lucrecia posada (Munay Tika Wasi Posada Oha) is a small family-run property with 6 rooms located on the Puno side, on the heights of Lake Titicaca. Run by Rufino and Lucrecia, who lent their names to the place, it caters to travellers seeking simple, affordable accommodation infused with local craftsmanship rather than standardised hotel comfort.

Why choose this property

The 2-star establishment doesn't pursue luxury. Its appeal lies in its human scale, direct contact with Spanish-speaking hosts, and décor entirely composed of Peruvian objects, textiles and artworks. It's an economical base from which to explore Lake Titicaca, at 3,800 metres altitude — plan for a day of acclimatisation before water-based excursions.

Atmosphere

The common areas — garden, terrace, picnic area and barbecue corner — give the property the feel of a guesthouse rather than a hotel. Rufino and Lucrecia welcome travellers themselves, in Spanish only, and direct their guests towards the best lake excursions. Reception is open 24/7, which is convenient for late arrivals from Juliaca or Cusco. Pets are welcome.

The rooms

The accommodation features 6 non-smoking rooms in two configurations:

  • Double rooms with one double bed and one single bed
  • A family room with 3 rooms equipped with 2 double beds

Each room is adorned with local decorations, traditional textiles and Peruvian artworks, giving the whole place a genuine Andean identity. The bedding is carefully chosen for the category: Egyptian cotton sheets and down duvets. Some rooms have a balcony overlooking Lake Titicaca. For amenities, you'll find a kettle, a dining corner with table, a coat rack, and a private bathroom with shower, towels and toiletries.

Services and dining

The posada's restaurant and bar allow you to dine on-site without venturing out, which is appreciated in the evenings at this altitude. Breakfast, either American or featuring local products, is served from 7am to 8:30am for a supplement. Room service is available on request.

Rufino and Lucrecia offer assistance in booking tickets and guided lake tours, and organise a free shuttle to the shores for lake excursions. Paid private parking is available on-site.

Location

The posada is located in the Puno region, on the Peruvian shores of Lake Titicaca — the world's highest navigable lake. The nearest airport is Inca Manco Capac in Juliaca, about an hour's drive away. To reach Cusco, allow a full day of bus or train travel (over 380 km).

What to see from the hotel

From Puno, the main excursions are by boat:

  • The islands of Taquile and Amantani, inhabited by Quechua communities
  • The temples of Pachamama and Pachatata on Amantani
  • The floating islands of the Uros, made of totora reeds

To explore the wider region, you can consult our Puno guide, or compare with other lake properties such as the Suasi Island Lodge or Tierra Viva Puno in town. Elsewhere in Pérou, the Katari in Arequipa and Villa Barranco in Lima round out a classic itinerary.
