Suasi Island Lodge
Suasi Island Lodge
On a private island in northern Lake Titicaca, 4 hours by boat from Puno, an eco-responsible lodge built in adobe and eucalyptus, focused on Andean wildlife and tranquility.
On a private island in the north of Lake Titicaca, Suasi Island Lodge offers an escape from the world, approximately 75 km from Puno. Access is by boat only, with a journey of around 4 hours that can include stops on the islands of Taquile and the Uros. This retreat appeals to travelers seeking calm, Andean landscapes, and wild fauna.
Why stay here
The lodge runs on solar energy, with a backup generator, and was built using local materials: adobe, stone, thatch, and eucalyptus wood. The entire structure blends into the island's terrain and reflects a genuine ecotourism approach. The property, which opened more than twenty years ago with just one room, has developed gradually without disrupting its surroundings.
It is one of the rare addresses on Lake Titicaca offering true immersion on a private island, far from the standard circuits departing from Puno.
The atmosphere
The lodge has the character of a large Andean country house. Flowering gardens, terraces, and spacious common areas invite you to slow down. The absence of electrical outlets and televisions in the rooms—recharging happens in the hall, where a large television stands—is intentional: you come here to observe the light on the lake, listen to the wind, and watch the stars. Wi-Fi exists but remains slow due to the remoteness.
The rooms
The lodge has 23 rooms spread over two floors, available in double, triple, and attic formats. Some have Juliet balconies facing the lake, others have skylights in the ceiling for observing the night sky. The interiors blend textiles with local artisanal touches. Each room is equipped with a safe and a bathroom with toiletries.
For more privacy, the Andean Cottage is a private chalet located near the lake, comprising two bedrooms, a large bathroom with bathtub, a small kitchen, a dining area, a furnished patio, and a private terrace. It suits families or couples seeking their own space.
Dining and services
The restaurant highlights fresh, local produce. The menu features mixed grilled dishes combining lake trout, beef, and chicken, quinoa soup, and vegetables and potatoes from the highlands. A cocktail, wine, and beverage menu accompanies meals, often served overlooking the sunset on Titicaca.
For relaxation, the lodge offers outdoor yoga sessions, massages, and simple hammocks positioned facing the lake. A small museum on site displays handicrafts and historical elements of the island.
Activities on the island and surroundings
Suasi suits both active days and restful stays. Hiking trails cross the island to high points overlooking the lake. Along the way, you encounter llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas, as well as abundant birdlife: Andean gulls, hummingbirds, Titicaca grebes, caracaras, and viscachas can be observed.
On the water, kayaking and canoeing allow you to explore the shoreline, while guided boat trips explore the biodiversity of Titicaca and its stories. Visits are organized to local communities on the mainland, offering chances to interact with inhabitants and understand the lake's ancestral traditions.
In the surrounding area
Transfers from Puno can be arranged with stops on the floating islands of the Uros and on Taquile, known for its weaving. The region lends itself to a broader circuit including Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Arequipa. To extend your journey, you can explore other properties such as La Hosteria in Arequipa, Chez Natividad in the Sacred Valley, or Hotel Runcu.
